Evangelist Ellen M. Allen
Ellen Marie (Groves) Allen, was the only girl child born to the union of Glendora Lathan and Pauline Groves. Born and raised in Grand Rapids Michigan. She was introduced to the Lord through her mother at an early age. Where they attended the Good Shepherd Church under the late Rev. Robert Lowe.
A verbal agreement was made that if anything were to ever happen to her mother her aunt would see to it that Ellen was taken care of. So at the tender age of six(1961) Ellen’s mother went home to be with the Lord. Her aunt Mrs. Margaret Lucile Holmes (fathers sister) known to Ellen as (Tee) then raised her along with the continued love and support of her father.
In 1969 at the age of 15, she recommitted herself to the Lord under the leadership of the late Elder Ben Matthews, at the Revival Center Church of God in Christ, where she received the baptism of the Holy Ghost.
At the age of 16, she met and fell in love with Minister Rance L. Allen of Monroe Michigan. With her father’s consent they were married on December 1st, 1970. After marrying Minister Allen she moved to Monroe Michigan where she later finished high school and received her diploma from Monroe High School in Monroe Michigan.
In 1972 Ellen began a lengthy career in the Banking Field and remained with the same employer in many capacities for 23 years. Retiring in 1995 to assist her husband in ministry where ever needed.
Ellen, a gifted teacher and lover of the word has held many offices in the ministry since 1969, from church secretary to choir member, president of the youth department, choir treasurer, youth program coordinator, Prayer and Bible Band (president and teacher). Young Women’s Christian Council president, and teacher. She is presently the assistant teacher for the Pastor’s bible Study, the President of the Women’s department and Annual Women’s Day Coordinator, she has also held the position of YWCC and Christian Women’s Council President for The Toledo District.
In addition to the current offices she holds, God had a greater call on her life. She recognized and accepted the call to further teach and expound the word of God. In addition to being an anointed teacher in July of 2000 she was newly licensed as a Deaconess Missionary in the Ohio North First Jurisdiction, under the leadership of Bishop P.A. Brooks (Interim Bishop), and State Supervisor Mother Sarah A. Thompson. Mother Thompson was so impressed with her ability to expound the scriptures that she presented her with her Evangelist license in July 2001,under the newly appointed Jurisdictional Prelate, Bishop Walter E. Jordan.
From August 2005- August 2009 , she co-partnered with Bishop Allen , Marie's Designer Fashions. She takes pride in being a well dressed, full figured lady.
In November 2011, she was elevated to another position in the Kingdom of God. She is now the First Lady of The Michigan Northwest Harvest Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction. She is now known to us as " Mother Allen" or some call her "Lady Bishop".
For Sister Allen, she has three accomplishments that she takes pride in:
1. Completing High School and getting her Diploma (which people said she’d never do)
2. Obtaining her license to teach the Gospel (something she felt she never needed, but it was a reward for many years of studying, researching and applying the Word of God).
3. Last but not least, the most precious accomplishment, is her 42 year marriage to the sweetest, most humble, patient, giving man this side of Glory, Dr. Rance .Lee Allen, who has spoiled his wife to life.
To this union no children have been born, but they both have many spiritual children and have welcomed approx. 30 God children.
Sister Allen has many favorite scriptures. One that is a constant reminder, “ If God be for you, who can be against you”, which is also the words of a song she often sings..
She often says, “Don’t ask me anything if you don’t want to know the truth”. But of course anyone who knows her knows that you will the truth whether you want it or not. (Chuckle)
We thank God for Sister Allen. She is the epitome of a Working, Anointed, and Strong Gifted First Lady. For whatever her hands find to do, it will be done as close to perfection as possible.
